How these windows are calculated

Each page starts from the species' real breeding and wintering range, then shifts the timing by the state's latitude band — a hummingbird leaves Maine weeks before it leaves Georgia, and the pages say so. States where a species lives year-round are excluded: there is no arrival to time.
